Motivational Interviewing is a way to approach to change and growth. Rather than focussing on ‘shoulds’ and ‘musts’, MI invites you to tap into the why. By identifying the underlying motivation, it is easier to empower others to change for themselves.

We do not do Motivational Interviewing to someone, but rather we use techniques to have more open, honest conversations.

The work we do is based on the 4th edition of Bill Miller and Stephen Rollnick’s Motivational Interviewing work. That said, we have adapted the content and practice so it can be used to make practical changes in the workplace.

Alasdair Cant is one of the Directors of Alasdair Cant and Associates. He studied German and English at Goldsmiths College in London, then went on to teach in London before establishing the training department for the national charity Release and later the first Business Unit within a local authority (Westminster) winning two major innovation awards.

He is an Advanced MI Practitioner and accredited team Coach, specialising in behaviour change.

Most of our training courses are designed to be delivered to groups from the same organisation as they are bespoke. However, we have just launched a series of stand-alone webinars for beginners to get an understanding of the fundamentals of Motivational Interviewing.

In 2025 we launched Applied Motivational Interviewing which is accredited by the CPDSO.
